Why We’re Researching and Writing About Hotels

In January, Sara and Elise kicked off a new project exploring culture through mid-range hotels. In this post, Sara explain’s why we’re so enchanted by possibly the least glamorous of all accommodations.

In “Why Do We Love Beige Boxes,” she writes, “it’s possible it isn’t the hotels themselves that I enjoy. They are instead a neutral backdrop for moments that take me out of myself and my routine, they are a blank page to write stories on. A beige sandbox for playing with ideas. Mid-range hotels are an empty stage that we can use to build connections and start conversations. Anyway, that’s one theory.”
