Why We’re Researching and Writing About Hotels

At Dismantle Culture & Media, we specialize in qualitative research and storytelling that captures the complicated reality of how people interact with the world around them. Many of our the most powerful insights have been found in everyday spaces, routines, or standardized corporate environments.

In “Why do we love beige boxes”, we introduce the larger goal behind our Hotel Happiness newsletter: turning a research lens onto the unexpected site of the American mid-range hotel. While luxury and budget spaces get more attention, this literal middle ground is consistently overlooked as a site of cultural production. In Sara’s short, story-forward essay, she explores the sociological concept of the “third place” alongside real-time ethnographic observation and examines why humans form deep connections within outwardly “beige” structures.

Unlocking Narrative in Expected Places

For our mission-driven clients, this essay demonstrates our capacity for nuanced community and spatial analysis. For our corporate partners, it shows how we find compelling, authentic brand narratives in seemingly mundane organizational histories.
