Education: EDSITEment Curriculum and Content Development

EDSITEment The Best of the Humanities on the Web

In October 2024, Dismantle signed a one-year contract with the  National Endowment for the Humanities to develop material for a large curriculum content expansion. This included teacher’s guides, curricula, and lesson plans to be published on the NEH website, EDSITEment

According to the Division of Education Programs at the NEH, “EDSITEment offers free resources for teachers, students, and parents searching for high-quality K-12 humanities education materials in the subject areas of history and social studies, literature and language arts, foreign languages, arts, and culture.”

In collaboration with NEH staff, Elise and Sara identified topics to cover subject areas of U.S. History, Civics and Government, and World History. They created active, inquiry-based materials, primarily aimed at grades 6-12 but also covering grades 3-5 and AP levels. They conducted scholarly research, synthesized key ideas, and created drafts for feedback. Then they brought in subject matter experts, classroom teachers, and curriculum specialists to ensure that everything, from overviews to assessments, was accurate, age-appropriate, learning standards aligned, and classroom ready.

In April 2025, the federal government discontinued the EDSITEment project during the downsizing of the NEH. When Dismantle’s contract was terminated without fault, they had submitted over 70% of their proposed deliverables and were working ahead of schedule toward contract completion. In their termination notice, the agency’s contracting officer reported that “all I heard was praise” from the NEH Division of Education Programs in relation to their work together.
